Sanyasamma

Sanyasamma is from Kondadiguvaparthi is a small tribal village in Andhra Pradesh on the eastern coast of India. One has to cross Champavathi canal in order to reach this village. During the rainy season, the canal is full and therefore this community will not have access to even the most basic services like food rations, health care, school for children, electricity etc. Malaria is very prevalent in this place. A total of 150 families live in this village.

"Because we are tribals, we do not have any knowledge of the outside world. I developed cataracts in both of my eyes which became mature and therefore I have become completely blind. Life became so difficult that I am not even aware of dogs and cats eating from my food. I used to fall frequently because of blindness. When I heard that Shalom hospital was conducting a camp in our village, I attended the camp. They took me to the hospital in Gotlam and operated on both my eyes. Now I am able to see clearly like before. I feel as if I am given a new life once again.”
